Cognitive Development
Cognitive Development is the study of the changes that occur in how we think and learn as we grow. This page shows the 4 stages of cognitive development throughout human growth: The Sensory Motor stage from birth to age 2, The Preoperational Stage from age 2 to age 7, The Stage of Concrete Operations from age 7 to 12, and the Stage of Formal Operations from 12 years and up into adulthood.
Piaget's Process of Cognitive Development:
-Schema
-a cognitive framework that places concepts, objects, or experiences into categories or groups of associations
-Disequilibrium
-a state of confusion in which your schemas do not fit your experiences
-Equilibrium
-an attempt to resolve uncertainty to return to a comfortable cognitive state
Assimilation
-fitting new experiences into existing mental schemas
-Accommodation
-changing your mental schemas so they fit new experiences
